Hello! My name is Brenda Nicholson and I am the owner and writer behind A Clean and Healthy Life.
This whole idea started because my hairstylist (a mom in her 30’s) mentioned how much better she had been feeling since adding vitamins and supplements to her diet and being more careful about what she fed her family.
I have always been interested in healthy eating, so we had a wonderful conversation about eating organic, preserving food, and even some of the things our grandmothers had done.
I went home to do some research and realized that while we thought we were eating healthy, there was so much more that we could do.
Maybe you feel that way too.
To me, the idea of clean living means:
- Real food, unprocessed and as close to natural as possible
- Using good quality vitamins and supplements to boost my health
- Being careful of the things I put on my body, like lotions and makeup
- Also being careful of the things I use to clean our home
- And I might even try preserving our own food!
You should know that I’m not an all or nothing kind of person. Just because I try to avoid sugar most of the time doesn’t mean I won’t have a slice of cheesecake if I can! (The whole topic of sweeteners is incredibly confusing to me. You can bet I’ll be doing research and sharing what I find about that.)
I believe in taking the slow and easy approach. Changing too much too quickly is often the best way to fail.
So I’ll do all the research, give you the facts, let you know what I’m up to, and then let you make your own decisions.
I am not a doctor or medical professional of any kind. I have no special education on nutrition, diet, or health.
I am a woman of a “certain age” who is exploring some new ideas to see if they can make me feel better and improve my health.
I promise to use the best resources that I can find and to share them with you when possible.
You are responsible for your own health and decisions about it.
I am putting myself out there in terms of some of my vital information. I’ll update this as I can, so we can see how this idea is working.
Deep breath. Here goes!
- Date: 9/30/20
- Age 65 as of 8/29/20
- Height: 5′ 4″ Weight 139
- Health: high cholesterol, hypothyroidism, post-menopausal. Currently have tendonosis (torn and deteriorating tendons) in my shoulder.
Edited to add:
As of 11/13/20: It has been determined that I will need surgery for my torn rotator cuff. It is scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving; the 27th, I think.
In prepping for surgery, I needed to get a number of health clearances, including a cardiologist, due to my age (65).
I saw the cardiologist on 11/6/20 and had a simple EKG. It showed that at some time in my life I have had a heart attack.
I have NO idea when this happened.
Think about that. NO symptoms at all that I can recall.
And apparently that’s not unusual for women. Heart attacks are known as a silent killer for women.
I have to tell you: I am terrified.
Since I got the news, I have been doing research and doing everything that I can to make myself (and my heart) as healthy as possible. The fact that I only have one arm that I can use is very frustrating.
What this means for A Clean and Healthy Life going forward is that in addition to clean food, I will be featuring heart healthy choices as well.
I always look forward to hearing from my readers. Feel free to leave a comment or email me.
